Genius Hacks to Make Your Handmade Soap Last Twice as Long
8 Genius Hacks to Make Your Handmade Soap Last Twice as Long
If you’ve fallen in love with our handmade soaps for the rich lather, gorgeous scents, and skin-loving benefits of a well-made, premium handcrafted soap, you know it’s worth making every bar last.
Whether you’re in New Brunswick or anywhere in Canada, these simple tips will help you keep your natural skincare bars working longer so your skin stays healthy, glowing, and nourished.
1. Use a Soap Saver
A good soap saver or dish keeps your bar high and dry between uses, preventing it from melting away in standing water—perfect for protecting your handmade artisan soap and extending the life of your skin-loving investment. Choose one that won’t degrade in water or cause mold.
2. Keep Soap Out of Puddles
Never leave soap sitting in the bottom of the shower or bathtub, or on a shelf where the shower water runs over it- it will be gone before the end of the week! Excess water breaks down even the hardest natural soap quickly
3. Make Sure To Buy Hard, Well-cured Soaps
Our soaps are crafted to be among the hardest bars available, lasting longer than competitors and giving you exceptional value while providing a luxurious cleansing experience. But many soapmakers use too many liquid oils or too much water in their soaps, or try to rush the curing process by putting soaps on the shelf too soon, rendering a softer, faster-melting soap. Always give the soap a little squeeze in the middle and buy the hardest bars you can find to get the best value.
4. Try Loofahs, Scrubby Gloves, or Exfoliating Mitts
These help you get more lather with less soap, while exfoliating for softer, happier skin and improved clood circulation, which boosts your glow and skin health. It's also great for your lymphatic system!
5. Cut Your Bar in Half
Using smaller pieces means you can rotate them, letting one fully dry while the other’s in use—great for premium handmade soaps that you want to stretch further. Or in case of accidents (left it on the shower shelf under the running water?)
6. Buy Extra Thick Bars
Extra-thick handmade soap bars take far longer to dissolve than standard ones, giving you more washes and more days of that spa-like experience. Want a double thick “fat bar”? Shoot us a message and we’ll accomodate during the cutting phase of the next batch of your requested scent ;)
7. Store Extras in a Dry, Cool Spot
If you stock up (and you should), keep spare bars dry so they stay hard while they conitnue to cure and harden, and they’ll last even longer when you finally use them. These means NOT storing them on a shelf out in the open in your bathroom. Just tuck them into the hallway closet or a dresser drawer, where the humidity and temperature stays more consistent. And they’ll reward you by gently scenting your fabrics!
8. Choose High-Quality, Long-Lasting Formulas
Soaps made with nourishing oils and natural butters—like ours—create a hard, long-lasting bar that’s as gentle on your skin as it is tough on dirt. We specifically avoid cheap fillers like regular sunflower oil, canola and other cheap seed oils that not only go rancid quickly, but make a cheap, soft, stinky bar of subpar soap.
